Healthflex

Description

The rising cost of physiotherapy and personal training has made continuous rehabilitation a financial burden for many patients. HealthFlex, a healthcare-focused startup, sought an innovative solution to make physiotherapy more accessible and affordable for patients requiring long-term care. Their vision was to provide a cost-effective alternative that allowed patients to continue their rehabilitation from home with real-time guidance and feedback.

Challenge

HealthFlex faced several challenges in developing a sustainable and effective physiotherapy solution:

  • High Cost of Continuous Care: Many patients needed consistent physiotherapy, but the cost of regular physiotherapist visits was prohibitive.
  • Lack of Real-Time Feedback: Patients performing exercises at home often lacked the necessary guidance to ensure proper form and movement, which could impede their recovery.
  • Limited Access to Care: Patients living in remote or underserved areas struggled to access regular physiotherapy services, making it difficult to maintain rehabilitation programs.

Solutions

Codewave designed and developed an IoT-based physiotherapy application that enabled patients to receive real-time feedback on their exercises without the constant need for a physiotherapist. Key components of the solution included:

  • Sensor-Based Motion Tracking: The system used sensors attached to multiple joints on the patient's body to monitor their range of motion and detect any deviations in movement. This allowed for accurate tracking of exercises, ensuring the patient performed them correctly.
  • Real-Time Feedback: The IoT system provided instant feedback on whether the patient’s movements were aligned with the prescribed exercises. If deviations were detected, the system alerted the patient to adjust their form, helping them avoid injuries or ineffective exercises.
  • Doctor-Prescribed Exercises: Healthcare providers could input a list of exercises tailored to each patient's needs, which were then monitored and tracked via the sensors. This gave doctors the ability to remotely oversee patient progress and adjust rehabilitation programs as needed.

The app was developed using Flutter and Dart for the frontend, ensuring a seamless, cross-platform experience, while Node.js powered the backend, providing scalability and responsiveness for data processing and feedback.

Impact

The IoT-based physiotherapy solution transformed how patients could access and perform their rehabilitation exercises. By providing real-time feedback and monitoring, the system enabled patients to confidently perform their exercises at home without the need for constant supervision by a physiotherapist. This not only reduced the cost of care but also made physiotherapy more accessible, particularly for patients in remote areas. The solution significantly improved patient outcomes by ensuring exercises were done correctly, fostering faster recovery, and reducing the risk of injury.
