X and Bluesky Take a Swipe at TikTok with Vertical Videos Feature

Date: January 22, 2025

With TikTok’s future uncertain, Bluesky and X are pushing the boundaries of vertical video content to keep you hooked to your screens! Here’s the full scoop!

The social media landscape heats up as Bluesky and X (formerly Twitter) launched new features, challenging TikTok’s dominance in the vertical video space. With TikTok facing regulatory uncertainties and service disruptions in the U.S., the other social media platforms are capitalizing on the opportunity to capture the ever-growing audience for swipeable, short-form content.

A Profitable Move for Bluesky and X?

While the TikTok ban is lifted in the USA, the threat remains. Seizing this opportunity, the decentralized platform Bluesky and X are acing their game. Bluesky’s custom feed for vertical videos will allow you to browse trending content. You can use this feature through the Explore tab of the mobile app.

Here, you can easily swipe through videos and trending content. And it does not just stop here - you can also pin your favorite videos to the home screen for quick access. You may need to restart your app to use this feature rolled out by Bluesky.

This feature by Bluesky comes at a time when the company is at an all-time high in its success rate, boasting over 28 million users! This surge in popularity can be attributed in part to TikTok’s recent struggles in the U.S. As the company wavers, TikTok alternatives are positioning themselves to become major players in the market.

Meanwhile, X is not far behind in the race! X launches a video tab for the users, enabling them to access a continuous feed of short videos. Users just need to tap the button next to the Grok icon to binge-watch short-form content.

Why Does This Shift Matter?

This shift is significant in the wake of TikTok’s uncertainty because vertical video is no longer just a trend—it’s the format everyone craves. As the platforms jump on the bandwagon with similar features, it’s clear that Bluesky and X aren’t just trying to compete with TikTok—they’re trying to fill the void left by TikTok's uncertain future in the U.S.

It’s a race for screen time, and as TikTok stumbles, both Bluesky and X are ready to take the lead. The question is, which platform will capture your attention next? Stay tuned!
