Twitter to remove message based 2-factor authentication for non-premium accounts which will leave them more vulnerable to cyber attacks.
In a recent announcement, Twitter said it will remove text message-based two-factor authentication (2FA) from non-premium accounts. This means that from March 20, anyone who relies on Twitter sending a text message code to their phone to log in will have their 2FA switched off, allowing anyone to access their accounts with just a password.
While Twitter claims it is committed to keeping people safe, this decision is not one of its wisest. The move to eliminate SMS 2FA might be a cost-cutting measure for the company since sending text messages isn't cheap.
However, you can still protect your Twitter account by switching to an app-based 2FA, which is much more secure and as fast as receiving a text message. This is the perfect opportunity to switch to an authenticator app like Duo, Authy, or Google Authenticator to keep your account secure.
Don't wait until March 20, secure your account now!
