After delaying the voice mode due to its resemblance to Scarlett Johansson’s voice, OpenAI finally launched the improved version with 4 voice presets.
OpenAI has been facing controversies with every innovation it brings for its consumers. From regulators to public figures, every entity has pushed the AI tech giant to delay the launch of its new voice mode. But OpenAI has risen to these demands with an optimized version that neither resembles anyone nor has safety risks.
OpenAI has finally launched its advanced voice mode for ChatGPT, powered by the latest GPT-4o model. The company is rolling out the new feature to select ChatGPT Plus users to get real-world feedback before gradually opening it for everyone else. The voice mode was originally planned to launch in May and then again in June. But it was delayed due to a glaring resemblance with Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the movie Her. Another reason for the delay comprises multiple safety risks for users, from filtering requests to generating music or any kind of copyrighted content.
The company has worked on ensuring that the new voice mode does not resemble any individual or public figure. Earlier, the resemblance of one of the presets named Sky with Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the movie Her raised questions regarding malpractice by the tech giant. The actress had sent an open letter to OpenAI demanding how the voice was produced. Prior to this controversy, Scarlett Johansson revealed that OpenAI had approached her to share her voice for one of the presets.
Now, the advanced voice mode comes with 4 voice presets and added features that make the launch delay a good incident. The new version comes with presets trained using voice actors who not only consented but were also paid handsome remuneration for providing their voices.
Users can also interrupt the chatbot in the middle of an output to correct the input prompt or add more layers to refine the results. The chatbot happily obliges the interruptions and is impressively quick in making the adjustments. The AI chatbot also detects and rejects certain voice prompts that do not comply with its renewed policies. If the newly introduced version by OpenAI, it can be a gamechanger for the company, establishing it as an AI market leader.
