Meta made some big announcements during its Meta Connect 2024 event, during which Ray-Ban Sunglasses took the major spotlight.
Meta is rapidly evolving to become the biggest supplier of digital consumers’ modern requirements. During the Meta Connect 2024 event yesterday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg made some exciting announcements about AI, AR, VR, and multiple platform upgrades. Among all these, the new AR sunglasses have received maximum applause from audiences and critics.
First, Meta AI is now deeply embedded into every company's social media platform, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. The biggest upgrade in the Meta AI ecosystem is voice mode. Meta’s AI assistant can now listen and speak in a conversational tone, allowing interruptions in the middle of output. The new voice mode comes with voice options inspired by the voices of celebrities like Dame Judi Dench, John Cena, Awkwafina, Kristen Bell, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Meta also launched the new Llama 3.2 model, reflecting a stronger infrastructure of multimodal LLMs. Llama 3.2 11B and 90B can interpret graphs and charts, generate image captions, and precisely pinpoint objects described in a picture. The new versions may even be capable of determining changes in the steepness of paths and terrains.
Meta also shared a long glimpse of the Orion glasses, claiming to be the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen. Zuckerberg also showcased the usage impressions of NVdia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, and he was duly impressed. According to Meta, the Orion AR glasses can become the next biggest consumer product, offering lightweight compatibility for hand-tracking and eye-tracking, as well as a neural interface. However, the final product will take some time to arrive on users’ faces.
Meta Quest 3S headset is set to roll out at $299, becoming an affordable and lighter version of Quest 3. With the launch of Quest 3S, Quest 2 and Quest Pro will be discontinued, and the sale will continue till the stock lasts or the end of the year, whichever comes first. With these new introductions in the AI, AR, and VR space, Meta is set to become one of the biggest tech giants to offer the widest range of consumer products and technologies.
