Ilya Stuskever, an ex-member, and cofounder of OpenAI, has launched an AI startup, Safe Superintelligence, that may supersede human cognitive abilities.
OpenAI began with the motive of being a completely non-profit organization that taps AI innovation. However, the AI tech giant has gained millions of dollars in revenue owing to the surge of global users. Ilya Sutskever, a former team member and co-founder of OpenAI has tried ousting the company’s founder, Sam Altman, for unsafe Artificial Intelligence. After failing to do so, he has now launched his AI startup, Safe Superintelligence “the world’s first straight-shot SSI lab, with one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence.”
OpenAI employee Daniel Levy and AI investor and entrepreneur Daniel Gross have joined him in the new AI venture. Daniel Gross has stakes in the likes of GitHub and Instacart. He is also invested in AI companies, Perplexity.ai, Character.ai and CoreWeave. However, SSI’s investors have not been disclosed yet.
The ex-OpenAI trio has a common goal of building a safe Artificial Intelligence machine that supersedes human cognitive abilities. OpenAI was launched with a similar goal, but somehow has digressed to become a pro-features company that has come into controversial light multiple times. Ilya’s startup will not be heavily focusing on finding top talent, but will instead focus on relevance and passion to build a safer AI space.
Sutskever said in a public statement, “Singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles, and our business model means safety, security, and progress are all insulated from short-term commercial pressures.” The company will be headquartered in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv. Sutskever is considered one of the most prolific AI researchers who has contributed majorly to the initial development of OpenAI’s value-driven codes. He will now focus entirely on SSI, and the value it adds to human lives in a positive light.
