Google OS TV Sets May Soon Transform Into Gemini AI Devices

Google OS TV Sets May Soon Transform Into Gemini AI Devices

Date: January 07, 2025

Google previewed its updated TV software version at the CES conference on Monday, demonstrating multiple AI-powered features.

AI is penetrating almost every aspect of our lives, with the television being the latest point of impact. Google reportedly previewed its Google Gemini AI for the TV version at the CES 2025 conference on Monday. The previewed AI features include more natural voice commands, contextual content search, and deeper integrations with third-party streaming services.

If what the tech giant has in the plan becomes true, Google will become the first mover of AI capabilities on home entertainment systems like Television sets. Gemini AI reported 42 million monthly active users on the web or mobile devices globally in its October report. Google TV and Android TV collectively have over 271 million monthly active users worldwide.

At this year’s CES, we shared a preview of new AI capabilities for Google TV that use our Gemini models to make interacting with your TV more intuitive and helpful. You and your family will be able to gather together and have a natural conversation with your TV,” said Google. However, the Gemini AI rollout will happen only on select third-party Android TVs.

The company also made key announcements at the CES event about better integration capabilities with its YouTube app on TV devices. Last year, Google introduced Gemini AI features on its first-party streaming box and experienced immensely positive feedback from users. Now, the tech giant is expanding its integration of Gemini AI features on third-party TV sets using Android Operating Systems.

According to the demonstration, users will be able to search better through a more conversational interface that does not require the ‘Hey Google’ prompt. Beyond that, users will also be able to search for contextual video information regarding health, travel, space, history, and other topics.

Google TVs and Android OS TVs might also receive an IoT integration capability powered by its Gemini AI model. This integration is aimed at empowering the ability to control other smart home appliances and personalize the artwork with all users, like family or flatmates. With a successful adoption, entertainment will become the next biggest use case of artificial intelligence in the world.
