Google Lens Will Now Help Users Do Better In-Store Shopping

Date: November 20, 2024

Google is introducing a new feature that provides detailed information on the products captured through Google Lens, especially offline stores.

Offline shoppers in the US can now employ a real-time guide through Google Lens to get the latest information, price comparisons, and other details on shopping decisions. Google introduced an AI-powered feature in Google Lens yesterday for Android and iOS users in the US.

Using the Google Lens app, offline shoppers can click pictures of the products on store shelves and get a wide variety of information about them. This includes an impressive offline comparison of prices and discounts with nearby retailers, helping them get the product somewhere else at a better price without increasing their waiting period.

The information also includes product details, customer reviews, stock availability in-store, similar products, and online price comparisons as well. Google credits the advancement success to its recent breakthrough in AI image recognition technology. The historical prowess of Google’s data has been screened thoroughly to accurately track the location of the user, identify the store they are shopping in, and provide updated nearby data on the looked-up products.

The majority of retail industry players, including Macy’s, Target, Amazon, and Walmart, have provided access to Google for their beauty products, toys, electrical goods, and other inventory. The tech company will keep expanding its partner network gradually as the team identifies and addresses gaps, if any.

“72% percent of Americans say they use their smartphone while shopping in-store, and more than half say they’ve left a store empty-handed because they didn’t feel confident enough to buy. This new feature can give shoppers the information and confidence they need to make a decision on the spot,”

-Lilian Rincon, Google’s VP of Consumer Shopping Products.

The newly introduced AI feature seems to have buffed on Google’s recently introduced similar feature that allows users to search for products and check inventory status through its Google Maps app. The tech giant has also introduced Afterpay and will soon launch Klarna, unlocking new payment avenues.
