The new Google Gemini update in the S25 series is here to replace Bixby as announced in Galaxy Unpacked 2025. Users will now enjoy deeper app integration and enhanced privacy.
At the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in San Jose, California, Samsung launched its newest flagship - the Galaxy S25 series, featuring deep integrations with Google's Gemini AI assistant. The Google Gemini Update aims to make this AI experience even more intuitive, personalized, and instinctive.
While Bixby will be retired in favor of Google Gemini update as the default virtual assistant, Samsung has reimagined interactions on smartphones, offering deep integrations across apps, smarter multitasking, and frictionless user experiences. During Galaxy Unpacked 2025 announcements, Samsung confirmed Gemini will go live on the Galaxy S24 and S25 series, with a wider rollout on other Android devices soon.
The Google Gemini update brings deep AI integration to the Samsung ecosystem, offering an enhanced, seamless user experience. With multimodal capabilities, Gemini can analyze images, videos, and documents, helping users simplify complex tasks. It enables smart task execution, such as finding a restaurant via Google Maps and instantly sharing options through Samsung Messages in a single prompt.
Gemini learns user preferences over time, providing personalized assistance through the Now Bar, an AI-powered floating widget that delivers proactive suggestions and reminders. The update also ensures seamless integration across Samsung’s core apps. It allows users to add events to Samsung Calendar, organize content in Samsung Notes, and automate daily routines with Samsung Clock and Reminder using voice commands.
Gemini can be launched by long-pressing the side button on the Galaxy S25 series, offering immediate access to voice input via a redesigned overlay. Additionally, Gemini now features deeper app connectivity with new Extensions for Samsung Calendar, Samsung Clock, Samsung Notes, and Samsung Reminder, enhancing workflow across the device.
With the increasing reliance on AI, Samsung emphasized privacy during the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. The Google Gemini update introduces the Personal Data Engine, which ensures that all user data is processed securely on-device with Samsung Knox Vault, protecting it from external threats.
It also features the latest security updates, including end-to-end encryption, post-quantum cryptography to protect against emerging cyber threats, and an enhanced Knox security dashboard. Samsung promises that Gemini's powerful AI capabilities do not compromise data privacy.
This launch indicates a serious strategic shift for Samsung, moving away from the feature-limited Bixby toward a full AI ecosystem. While Bixby was centered around device control, Gemini draws upon Google's vast information network, enhancing search and making apps and all other interactions smarter, with better personalization. Thanks to such heavy integration with Android and Samsung services, Gemini is more fluent, proactive, and intelligent than competitors like Siri and Alexa.
Now, Gemini allows Samsung users to understand their behavior in order to predict their needs and offer proactive suggestions. Whether it's planning a daily schedule, managing smart home devices, or even research, Gemini is responsive, beating its predecessors and competitors.
Along with the S25 series, Samsung gave teasers for innovations coming down the pipeline at Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Galaxy S25 Edge with its curved-edge design and wiser use of AI chatbot among other features. The company also announced that it is working on Project Moohan in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm to develop XR wearables for immersive AR and VR experiences. Moreover, Samsung has hinted at the development of its own AR/VR glasses to mark an official entry into the mixed-reality market and join the rivalry between Apple and Meta.
Samsung is trying to reshape the Android experience with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, introducing Google's Gemini update by integrating advanced AI features, seamlessly integrated applications and a robust privacy-centric approach. Further, its broad ambitions in the field of AI include the use of XR wearables and innovations in AR/VR to make wearables a reality.
