Baldur’s Gate 3 Cross-Play Update Public Test To Launch Soon

Date: November 28, 2024

Baldur’s Gate 3 is upgrading its technology features to enable cross-play, 12 new subclasses, and more to expand its community across platforms.

Cross-platform games are growing rapidly as gaming consoles upgrade themselves to match global quality standards. Baldur’s Gate 3, the multi-award-winning RPG game, is getting added to this library. Larian studio, the maker of this game, recently revealed a soon-to-be-launched cross-play feature, 12 new subclasses, and a photo mode as part of the next big version update.

The game already offers cross-progression, helping players to move the game to new consoles without losing their progress. Adding to this comforting feature will soon be the cross-platform functionality, allowing players across platforms to collaborate in real-time gameplay. The upcoming update has been code-named Patch 8 and will be rolled out gradually worldwide.

"Once the update is live, you'll be able to invite your friends to join your cross-play lobby directly, regardless of platform, and find available multiplayer lobbies with friends on other systems using the Larian Network,” said a representative from Larian.

A new Photo Mode feature is also coming with the Patch 8 update, which the studio says brings a “whole slew of options to let you customize and edit your in-game photography, with various levels of freedom depending on whether you're using it while adventuring, or during combat, dialogue, and cinematic scenes." The photo mode also provides a customizable field of view, exposure, depth of field, and focus. Beyond the basics, the Photo mode can also remove unwanted elements from a snapshot, including other players, NPCs, and enemies.

Taking up the maximum memory allocation in the Patch 8 update are 12 new subclasses, including Bard - College of Glamour, Barbarian - Path of Giants, Cleric - Death Domain, Druid - Circle of Stars, Paladin - Oath of the Crown, Fighter - Arcane Archer, Monk - Drunken Master, Ranger - Swarmkeeper, Rogue - Swashbuckler, Sorcerer - Shadow Magic, Warlock - Hexblade, and Wizard - Bladesinging. The new subclasses have been added to existing character classes, making them more loaded with game-changing capabilities.

While the entire gaming world concluded that Baldur’s Gate 3 had nothing more to offer after its last patch, the game-maker has come back with larger-than-life upgrades in the game’s foundational technology, UX, in-game capabilities, and additional aesthetic features. The updated features will soon be available for public testing to give gamers a glimpse of Baldur’s Gate 3 as one of the world’s top cross-platform games.
