Apple AI Launch Leaves Global Users Unimpressed

Apple AI Launch Leaves Global Users Unimpressed

Date: September 11, 2024

Apple made some big and final announcements this year related to hardware and software but failed to match the crowd's excitement.

The all-new artificial intelligence technology will finally launch with the iPhone 16 lineup on September 16, 2024. Over a year, the tech communities remained hooked behind the tech giant’s every move to provide the latest updates first to their readers. However, as the launch date comes closer, the expectations and excitement of global users have dropped significantly.

This was probably the first time loyal Apple users thought a significant change would appear in the Apple ecosystem. However, the expectations remained unattended with the downgraded announcements around Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence will launch with the new iPhone, iPad, and Mac series without most of its promised features.

Users will get the option to turn on Apple Intelligence upon upgrading the OS to the latest version. However, the features arriving with the AI are mostly hidden in the menus. Those who find them will get to experience the benefits.

iOS 18 is said to be the biggest jump in terms of feature upgrades from its predecessor. Apple has shared the official timeline of these feature upgrades, with most of them arriving the next month of its launch. It effectively proves a point that Apple had to rush towards the launch with an unfinished product, owing to the rapidly growing competition in the AI and genAI space.

One question that leaves a major chunk of its users left confused is why it won’t work on iPhone 15. As a recently launched hardware product, the fact that only iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max with the M1 chips can run AI features makes things much more complicated. As of August 30, 2024, the iPhone 15 was one of the most sold mobile devices in the world.

Unless Apple provides a huge discount to these users to upgrade to the new systems, the company might lose out on a huge population of customers from accessing its latest AI features. The problem is not in making it an exclusive purchase but in keeping the expense gap big enough to internally eliminate new user acquisition for its latest offerings. Android users seem to be having a good time witnessing the chaotic launch journey of Apple Intelligence, as many existing Android devices efficiently run the latest AI apps without a hiccup or an expensive mandatory upgrade.
