Amazon India is set to enter the quick commerce industry with the launch of its Amazon Tez app to tap its $5.5-6 Billion market potential.
The quick commerce industry in India has grown faster than anywhere in the world. With more people embracing lightning-fast deliveries on their everyday must-haves and good-to-buys, the quick commerce industry as grown to $5.5-6 Billion. To tap this huge market potential, Amazon is ready to launch its new quick commerce app ‘Tez’ soon.
This move will pit the eCommerce tech giant directly against the top quick commerce leaders in India, including Swiggy’s Instamart, Zomato’s Blinkit, and Zepto. The source involved with the matter informed a new channel about the recent advancements happening around the new product launch.
Tez is the code name of the new product, and the final name may be something else. While the company planned the app’s launch in the first quarter of 2025, the recent success in final development stages has made the tech giant eager to launch earlier. This means that the new quick commerce app of Amazon may land on our phones in the new year month.
“They (Amazon) want to launch it sooner than the end of the first quarter in India. Quick commerce is where all the action is if you are a meaningful consumer internet platform. They are also following the same model as others—setting up dark stores, figuring out the details of stock-keeping units (SKUs) and categories, and putting logistics infrastructure in place,” a person aware of the matter told the news channels.
Amazon is also expanding its already robust delivery network by partnering with multiple startups and scaleups involved in quick deliveries. As a lot of internal and external stakeholders are involved, the project has gained a high-priority status from the senior management making it a ‘greenfield, grounds-up initiative for an upcoming and fast-growing ecommerce space in India.’
Amazon is also making new hiring opportunities in this project along with redirecting in-house key resources to it. According to the source, further steps of the matter will be discussed in the next monthly review scheduled for the first week of December, ahead of the SMBHAV event for Indian SMEs.
